Characterisation of the Performance of Cooperative Networks in Ricean Fading Channels
نویسندگان
چکیده
We consider cooperative networks where two singleantenna users assist each other in their transmissions by relaying their partner’s messages. Both users achieve space diversity from sharing their partner’s antenna. The target applications of cooperative networks are systems in which multiple antennas cannot be supported due to size limitation and wireless systems operating in very high frequency bands where line of sight (LOS) propagation dominates and little diversity is available from conventional antenna arrays. Most present work concerning cooperative networks has assumed that the propagation channel exhibits Rayleigh fading (e.g., [1], [2], [3], [4], [5]). However, in situations where an LOS component exists the Ricean fading model is more appropriate. Consequently, this paper presents a characterisation of the performance of cooperative networks in Ricean fading channels. It will be shown that in contrast to the situation in Rayleigh fading channels, in Ricean fading channels there is a region where cooperation is not advantageous, even though the inter-user SNRs are reasonably high. This is of interest particularly in high-frequency applications where LOS propagation often predominates. Also, in Ricean channels having low K-factor values, the gain from cooperating is found to be greater than that available in Rayleigh channels.

متن کاملPerformance of Transmit Beamforming in Ricean Fading Channels: Robustness on Quantization Error and Feedback Error
In this paper we examine the robustness of two element transmit beamforming in the presence of feedback delay and quantization error. Specifically, we examine the robustness of two-element beamforming techniques in the presence of Ricean fading. We show that when the fading is Ricean, feedback methods are significantly more robust than when the fading is Rayleigh. This is significant since many...

In this paper, an analytical approach for evaluating performance of dual-hop cooperative link over shadowed Ricean fading channels is presented. New lower bound expressions for the probability density function (PDF), cumulative distribution function (CDF) and average bit error probability (ABEP) for system with channel state information (CSI) relay are derived. In this paper, our objective is maximizing total sum-rate subject to power constraints on total relay transmit power or individual relay powers, for amplify-and-forward single-antenna relay-based wireless communication networks. We derive a closed-form solution for the total power constraint optimization problem and show that the individual relay power constraints optimization problem is a quad...
متن کاملAttack-Aware Cooperative Spectrum Sensing in Cognitive Radio Networks under Byzantine Attack
Cooperative Spectrum Sensing (CSS) is an effective approach to overcome the impact of multi-path fading and shadowing issues. The reliability of CSS can be severely degraded under Byzantine attack, which may be caused by either malfunctioning sensing terminals or malicious nodes. Almost, the previous studies have not analyzed and considered the attack in their models. The present study introduc...
